World’s Oldest Woman Dies at Age 115

MONTREAL – Just weeks after she officially became the world’s oldest woman, Julie Winnefred Bertrand died Jan. 18 at the age of 115, according to published reports.

Bertrand became the world’s oldest woman in December 2006 after the death of Elizabeth Bolden, a Tennessee woman who died at age 116.

Bertrand was born Sept. 16, 1891 in Coaticook, Quebec.   She became a celebrity when she officially became the world’s oldest woman and was asked by several media outlets to give interviews.  She never had a problem telling them no.

Bertrand never married and worked as a buyer for Magasin F. X. Lajoie, a department store in Coaticook, throughout her life.
