HFA to Host 'Bereaved Children and Adolescents' Webinar
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nationally-known expert Kenneth Doka, senior bereavement consultant to Hospice Foundation of America, will host a discussion focusing on two of the most significant research projects to date on the effects of parental loss on children and adolescents during HFA's live online webinar on Wednesday, April 14, from 1-2:30 p.m. EDT, according to a news release. Dr. Doka will be joined by J. William Worden, co-principal investigator of the Harvard Child Bereavement Study, based at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Irwin Sandler, lead researcher on the Family Bereavement Program at Arizona State University.
"Almost 875,000 children and adolescents have experienced the death of a parent," Dr. Doka said. "Yet, increasingly, grief counselors are called to defend their practice." The two research programs discussed in this webinar provide perspectives and approaches that can be considered "evidence-based." These two prominent researchers will offer insights not only on the experience of grief in children and adolescents, but also on the factors that can help identify the children most at risk. Social workers, guidance counselors, child life professionals, counselors, educators, clergy and funeral directors will glean insights and intervention strategies that will enhance their ability to support grieving children and adolescents.
"The research found in these studies has had a profound impact on how professionals can support children grieving the loss of a parent," said Amy S. Tucci, CEO/president of HFA. "This webinar is essential for all who work with children and adolescents."
The organization registration fee is $100, which allows access to both the live webcast and an archived online program for one year past the live webinar, with unlimited CEs (1.5 hours) available for a wide range of professions. Individuals may register for the live webinar for $35 and 1.5 hours of CE credit is included for the registered individual. This webinar is part of a three-part series sponsored by the Moyer Foundation; a registration fee of $250 allows unlimited access and CEs for one year to all three webinars in the series.
